Martinez Fischer, Menéndez Face Off One More Time For Senate Seat

Shelley Kofler

Residents in Bexar County are going to the polls Tuesday. They’ll be casting ballots in the special election runoff between State Senate candidates Trey Martinez Fischer and José Menéndez. One of these men will fill the seat being vacated by State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte.

The two candidates have been filling the airwaves with ads in recent weeks.

Martinez Fischer has touted his efforts to put $4 billion back into public schools. He has criticized Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who voted against the cuts and is now pushing a school voucher plan.

Menéndez has reiterated 14 years of service to Texas and the 55 bills he authored, which became law, in another TV ad. He said his opponent didn't even come close, in terms of comparable work.

Menendez trailed Martinez Fischer by 18 points in the Jan. 6 special election.

Whoever loses the race will still hold on to his House seat. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.  You can follow the results Tuesday night on TPR.org.
