There’s a city of San Antonio summer program that’s providing song and dance to downtown. Bravo is its name, and Parks and Recreation's Lyn Kinton explains what it is:
“Bravo is an evening of song and dance that is offered down at the Arneson Theatre. It’s going to be going on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout July, starting on July 9,” Kinton said.
The music is provided by "Take Note," the band of young musicians the city assembles every year.
“Essentially it’s a pre-professional group and so we do have the kids audition to be a part of the band," Kinton said. "It’s a great experience and the kids in the band have a lot to offer.”
I asked what kind of music do they play, and on what instruments.
“Classical rock, some country -- we have a keyboardist, we have obviously a vocalist, we have guitarist and base player,” Kinton said.
Bravo also features dancing, and there are two separate dance troupes who perform as part of Bravo.
"One of our troupes, the Fandango, is geared more towards the traditional Folklorico and Flamenco dance," said Kinton. "And then our Alamotion Dance Troupe does more of the jazz, tap, hip-hop genre.”
So it’s a night of live music and dance delivered from young San Antonians. Kinton also explained that they are pushing a "staycation" theme—taking you to exotic places by way of the music and dance.
"So you might feel like you’re actually visiting somewhere other than San Antonio," she said.
A $10 donation is suggested, but that’s just a suggestion.
“If people can’t afford the donation they still can come and enjoy the show,” Kinton said.
