They’ve got a distinctive sound and maybe it’s because there are ten of them. Or maybe it’s that they’re Australian.
"We’re just about to start our brand new show, which is the Ten Tenors on Broadway," said the group's Touring Musical Director Paul Gelsumini.. He describes what they do.
"Ten Aussie guys having fun onstage, you know, we are notorious for a few dance moves every now and then," Gelsumini said.
The group is coming to Boerne’s Samuel Champion High School Auditorium on Monday, January 27, as part of the Boerne Performing Arts program, which has been bringing major touring shows to the city for the last two years.
The show will feature a wide range of material.
"From Rodgers and Hammerstein to Irving Berlin, then classics from Simon and Garfunkel, and then even diving into some new musical theater territory," Gelsumini said. "Some songs from 'Once' and even from 'Wicked' and some juke box musicals like 'Jersey Boys.'"
So why are there ten tenors?
"It all started about fourteen or fifteen years ago when ten boys from Brisbane wanted pretty much just some money to have a few beers, and they said, 'Ah, we’re all doing this music degree, why don’t we give a concert or two and see what happens?'" Gelsumini said.
They’ve been a roaring success ever since.
"We always try to meet our audiences after every show. We come out, we’ll say 'G’day,' have a photo, have a laugh have a chat," Gelsumini said.
