For decades the world hoped for a clean energy revolution, but the big energy story of the last 5 years has been the rise of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing and a retrenching in fossil fuels.

Now, as a glut sees these technologies wane, can the spotlight make it back to clean energy?

A new book argues that efficiency may be the key to turning an energy dream into reality.

In "Energy Revolution: The Physics and Promise of Efficient Technology" Harvard physicist Mara Prentiss argues the United States is wasting 2/3rds of its energy. If we recapture some of this, we can generate 100 percent of our energy needs through renewables.
