Spring doesn’t officially begin until next week, but you wouldn’t know that from the bluebonnets that are popping up all over Texas.

You almost can’t take a drive without seeing the state flower.

A mild winter has led to the earlier than normal blooms according to Daphne Richards with the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service.

“There so evident right now that even if there’s anything else blooming nearby, you’re going to notice those bluebonnets, because they’re coming in all at once in big blue swaths and they are definitely coming out in full force,” said Richards.

But be careful if you want to stop and take pictures.  Don’t trespass and check for snakes and ants.  It’s also best to avoid the busy highways.

“Pretty much any rural highway in Texas right now, you’re not gonna go wrong,” added Richards. “If you turn left or you turn right, you’re gonna come across some bluebonnets.”

In the weeks ahead, we’ll start seeing more Indian Paintbrush and Indian Blanket popping up across the state.
