Thousands of community members, San Antonio Police officers, friends and his family crowded into Community Bible Church on the city's Northeast Side for Detective Benjamin Marconi’s memorial service.
Marconi was killed just over a week ago, shot in the head while sitting in his patrol car writing a traffic ticket for a driver who was not involved in the shooting.
More than an hour into the service his two children addressed the crowd of supporters, including his step-daughter, Jacy Lewis.
“Thank you for the support, thank you for the prayers, thank you for every single thing each and every one of you has done for being here or being a part of our everyday lives for the past week” Lewis said. “It would have warmed Ben’s heart to see so many people come together to celebrate the life of such a wonderful man.”
Colleagues, friends and family describe Marconi as "a rock," someone "imperfectly perfect," and a man who believed in always giving others a second chance.
They say he was kind and a good role model with the ability to put people at ease.
