Zika is spread primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes Aegypti mosquito and possibly Aedes Albopictus, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The mosquitoes can be found in South Texas and along the Texas coast, especially in urban areas. They tend to lay eggs in or near standing water and can be found indoors and outside.
