Man Dead After Shootout With San Antonio Police

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police say a man is dead after leading officers on a vehicle chase that ended in a shootout. They say it’s unknown if the suspect, who wasn’t identified, had shot himself in the head, or, if the wound was caused by police bullets.

The police department said an officer attempted to pull the suspect over Wednesday for a traffic stop at Loop 410, but the suspect fled. Police later spotted the suspect’s vehicle in a parking lot, but he fled again, leading officers on a chase.

The department says the suspect fired several times at officers, but none were struck. The suspect later crashed his vehicle and shot at officers, prompting them to return fire. The officers involved will be placed on administrative duty. An investigation is ongoing.
