It's been just over a month since President Trump authorized the deployment of National Guard troops to the southwest border. New details about their numbers and activities have emerged.

It’s been just over a week since the governors of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California committed to sending around 2,000 National Guard members to the U.S.-Mexico border.

That’s in response to a call to action by President Trump, who says there’s been an uptick in illegal border crossings and drug trafficking.

Some 900 troops have already arrived, but operations are not yet fully underway.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday that the Texas National Guard has so far deployed around 760 guardsmen along the U.S.-Mexico border in response to a call to action from President Trump.

The first members of the National Guard in Texas have made their way to the U.S-Mexico border following a call to action by President Trump. The Laredo border patrol sector says it would welcome the help.

The Laredo section of the Texas-Mexico border spans 170 miles and contains no walls or fences.

Border Patrol Chief Greg Burwell said it's a challenge to keep tabs on all of it.
