The Source: Gilbert King's Pulitzer-Prize Winning Work

Despite the passion of future Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall for his Groveland Case, a case where 4 black men were falsely convicted of raping a 17-year-old white girl, the reasonGilbert King chose this chapter of Marshall's life to write about it was because it was largely overlooked in biographies of the man.

"There is no man alive or to be born who can prevent me from arguing the Groveland case before the U.S. Supreme Court!" - Thurgood Marshall

The racial injustice of Groveland, Florida ran through the town and area, far beyond the scope of this one trial and King argues this case marks the beginning of the "New America." The fall of Jim Crow and the beginning of integration were yet to come, but the hope was on the horizon.  Gilbert King joins us to talk about his Pulitzer-Prize winning work "Devil In The Grove:Thurgood Marshall, The Groveland Boys, and the Dawn of a New America."
