Wurzbach Parkway will close in both directions during weekends until construction for a land bridge is complete.

Both directions of Wurzbach Parkway will close to traffic on weekends for construction of the Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridgeat Hardberger Park.

San Antonio's Public Works Department reports the closures begin this weekend. The parkway will close at 9 p.m. on Fridays and reopen 5 a.m. on Mondays until work is completed.

Some unscheduled overnight closures on weekdays during the same hours are also possible, according to public works officials.

Crews are installing steel girders over the road that will form the base of the land bridge to connect the park, which the parkway currently divides.

Work on the $23 million land bridge began in 2018 and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2020.

Native landscaping will be installed on top of the steel girders to create a natural look.

Park visitors and wildlife will be able to use the land bridge to cross from side of the park to the other.
