The Voice Behind the World Premiere of 'Elementos'

Clarice Assad

I have anticipated the premiere of ClariceAssad's song cycle, "Elementos," since Soli Chamber Ensemblefirst announced their 2015-16 concert season. I have watched with interest the evolution of Clarice as a composer since I first heard her "Violin Concerto" over a decade ago. It has been an interesting ride, and got even more interesting with the world premiere this week of "Elementos," a work tailored for Soli and the jazz inflected voice of Ms. Assad. San Antonio has one more opportunity to be part of the world premiere when the work is given a second take Tuesday evening, January 26, at Ruth Taylor Concert Hall on the campus of Trinity University. The concert begins at 7:30, with a brief pre-concert talk by Ms. Assad at 7 PM. I highly recommend the experience, not only for Clarice's premiere, but for the entire program.

Interview with Clarice Assad, composer of "Elementos," a song cycle receiving its world premiere this week in San Antonio, Part II.

I recently interviewed Clarice Assad and pieced together these two 5 minute modules. You may have heard them on KPAC, but now you can listen again, or for the first time. I hope this will whet your appetite for tonight's concert. See you there? Clarice gives a brief pre-concert talk about "Elementos" at 7 PM.

James first introduced himself to KPAC listeners at midnight on April 8, 1993, presenting Dvorak's 7th Symphony played by the Cleveland Orchestra. Soon after, he became the regular overnight announcer on KPAC.
