¡Viva Fiesta San Antonio!

Sunday, April 26, 2015:

 

This is day 11 of Fiesta. It's the last day.

 

San Jose MissionFest is taking place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Mission San Jose. It's a family event that features great food, live music throughout the day, a children's corner, arts and crafts, and fun. There are performances by various Tejano, Conjunto and Country artists.

 

A Day in Old Mexico & Charreada runs from noon to 6 p.m. at Charro Ranch. This family event features food, drink, pony rides for the kids, Ballet Folklorico performances, and live Mariachi music.

 

While this is the last day of Fiesta, the good news is Fiesta Medal Mania continues at the Institute of Texan Cultures through Wednesday.

 

Saturday, April 25, 2015:

This is day 10 of Fiesta.

The King William Fair takes place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the King William Historic District. It's a family fair with art and craft vendors, live music and dance on four stages, food and beverage booths, a Kids Kingdom play area and a small but quirky parade, all on the streets of the historic district with its stately homes and gracious gardens.

The Fiesta Jazz Band Festival is going on from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the campus of St. Mary's University. This free event offers a unique educational and music performance experience for over 500 middle school, high school, and college jazz student performers from across the state.

The day will be capped off with the Fiesta Flambeau Parade. This illuminated parade lights up the streets of downtown San Antonio on a 2.8 mile route. As the evening turns to night, the parade fills with spectacular lights and sounds from an average of 150 parade entries.

Friday, April 24, 2015:

This is day 9 of Fiesta.

The big event today is the Battle of Flowers Parade. The Vanguard begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by the parade at 12:30. The first parade was held in 1891 to honor the fallen heroes of the Alamo and to commemorate the victory at the Battle of San Jacinto, which led to Texas’ independence from Mexico.

The Fiesta World Class Jazz Concert takes place on the campus of St. Mary’s University from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. This free event features performances by outstanding jazz musicians from across the United States.

And “Night In Old San Antonio” or NIOSA, Fiesta San Fernando, and Fiesta Gartenfest continue today.

Thursday, April 23, 2015:

This is day 8 of Fiesta.

“Night In Old San Antonio” or NIOSA, Fiesta Cornyation, Fiesta San Fernando, and Fiesta Gartenfest continue today.

Culture Fest and Rib Cook-off is going on at St. Philip’s College from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can judge who has the best ribs in the city at this free event. There’ll be lots of live music to go with the food.

Palo Alto College PAC Fest, called the largest event south of Highway 90, takes place from noon to 10 p.m. It features live music, family friendly games, and a carne asada competition. A fireworks show will cap off the night.

The Battle of Flowers Band Festival runs from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Alamo Stadium. It’s entitled “This Land is Your Land” and will feature musical tributes to San Antonio, the Lone Star State, and America, with the grand finale featuring a patriotic salute to the USA complete with fireworks.

Wednesday, April 22, 2015:

This is day 7 of Fiesta.

“Night In Old San Antonio” or NIOSA and Fiesta Cornyation continue tonight.

Fiesta San Fernando begins today in front of San Fernando Cathedral. This free event runs from noon to midnight through Saturday. It features two stages with bands playing a variety of music including rock, country, jazz, conjunto, and tejano.

Fiesta Gartenfest starts today. It runs from 5 p.m. to midnight through Friday at Beethoven Garten. There will be lots of German food, beer, and music.

Coronation of the Queen – Order of the Alamo takes place from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Majestic Theater.

 

Tuesday, April 21, 2015:

This is day 6 of Fiesta.

It’s the first day of a “Night In Old San Antonio” or NIOSA. Thousands of people will turnout at La Villita for this popular event. It runs from 5:30 to 10:30 every night through Friday. There are more than 250 food and drink booths and more than a dozen nonstop entertainment stages in 15 heritage-themed areas.  VIA is offering park and ride service from the Madla Transit Center as well as the Crossroads, Randolph Boulevard, and Blossom Park and Ride locations.

It’s also the opening night for Fiesta Cornyation. It’s one of the more popular events of Fiesta week. Shows run nightly at 7:30 and 10 p.m. through Thursday at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre.

Fiesta in Blue is taking place at Laurie Auditorium on the Trinity University campus. It’s an Air Force salute to the local community. This military tribute is performed by the United States Air Force Band of the West from Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The free show runs from 7 to 8:30 tonight.

 

 

Monday, April 20, 2015:

 

 

This is day 5 of Fiesta.

 

 

Some of the events taking place today include Air Force at the Alamo. That will run from 11 a.m. to noon in Alamo Plaza. It includes demonstrations by local Air Force units, Military Working Dogs, and others. The Drum and Bugle Corps from JBSA Lackland will also perform.

 

 

Pilgrimage to the Alamo will also take place in Alamo Plaza from 4 to 5 p.m. It’s a memorial tribute to the Alamo heroes and the heritage of Texas. A solemn wreath bearing procession of historic, civic, patriotic, military, and school groups will depart from the Vietnam Memorial at the Tobin Center, at 3:30 p.m., and walk silently to the Alamo.

 

 

The day will be capped off by the Texas Cavaliers River Parade on the River Walk from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

 

 

Sunday, April 19, 2015:

 

This is day 4 of Fiesta. Taste of New Orleans and the Fiesta Arts Fair continue today.

 

Jewels of the Court: A Journey Through Fiesta's Coronation is on display at the Witte Museum. It showcases the two-year process for planning and executing the Order of the Alamo Coronation. More than 30 coronation robes from the early 1900s to today provide historical perspective to the Fiesta royalty fashion.

 

A Day in Old Mexico & Charreada takes place from noon to 6 p.m. at San Antonio Charro Ranch. This family event features food, drink, pony rides for the kids, Ballet Folklorico performances, and live Mariachi music.

 

Fort Sam Houston Fiesta Ceremony & Fireworks Extravaganza runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Parade Field. Bring your lawn chair to this free event. There will be lots of music along with food and drink booths. There are carnival rides, a rock climbing mountain and interactive inflatable obstacle course, a children's activities tent, military equipment display, and novelty items. The day of fun wraps up with fireworks.

 

Saturday, April 18, 2015:

This is day 3 of Fiesta. Dozens of events are taking place all over San Antonio.

Some of the more popular festivities include Fiesta Oyster Bake at St. Mary's University and Taste of New Orleans is at Sunken Garden Theater. Both events take place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Earth Day – Presented by the City of San Antonio is going on at Woodlawn Lake from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be live music, educational booths, as well as vegetarian food and drink options. It's an educational event, for the whole family to enjoy, that teaches and informs the citizens of San Antonio on how to protect and preserve the land, air and water in our community.

The Fiesta Arts Fair is taking place the Southwest School of Art from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are about 125 exhibitors as well as music, food, and a children's art area.

Viva Botanica! Is going on at the San Antonio Botanical Garden from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is an alcohol-free event designed for little kids. There's plenty of music, games, and a children's parade.
 

Friday, April 17, 2015:

This is day 2 of Fiesta.
 
Some of the events taking place today include the JBSA-Lackland Fiesta Military Parade.  It runs from 9 to 10 this morning on the Lackland Parade Grounds and is free.
 
Fiesta Oyster Bake will take place at St. Mary’s University and A Taste of New Orleans will go on at Sunken Garden Theater.  Both events run from 5 to 11 p.m.  They will continue on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
 
Alamo Heights night will go on at University of the Incarnate Word from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. tonight.
 
Fiesta POPS will take place at the Tobin Center beginning at 8 p.m.
 

Thursday, April 16, 2015:

Fiesta officially begins today in San Antonio.
 
It will kickoff with “Fiesta Fiesta” in front of the Alamo from 5 to 9 tonight. It will take place rain or shine.
 
The Fiesta Carnival will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. in the Alamodome Parking Lot.
 
Fiesta continues through Sunday, April 26 at locations throughout the City.
