TPaRbor Planting Day Exceeds Expectations

Dec 22, 2014

On Saturday, December 6, approximately 50 TPR listeners rolled up their sleeves and came together for the TPaRbor Planting Day. The group worked together with the San Antonio River Authority to continue restoration work on a 3.4-acre stretch section of natural area on the southeast corner of the Theo Avenue bridge, an area we call the TPaRbor.

Volunteers spent the morning helping to plant trees, shrubs and native grasses and wildflowers. The workday resulted in expanded and improved habitat conditions and connections to the San Antonio River ecosystem. Much to the surprise of San Antonio River Authority organizers, 1500 grasses and wildflowers and 165 trees and shrubs were placed, far exceeding expectations.

The TPaRbor will eventually feature a beautiful faux bois piece by local artist Carlos Cortes, whose techniques replicate the beauty of wood with concrete. This covered bench will mark the entry into the natural area, and is given as a gift from the Cortes family to the citizens of San Antonio.

Special thanks to our partner in this endeavor, the San Antonio River Authority.
