Think Science: Robotics

We're still a ways away from C-3PO, but advances in robotics are benefiting society beyond the assembly line. This Think Science presentation shares some of the recent trends in the robotics industry. You'll learn about how robotics programs like FIRSTare benefiting San Antonio-area kids, and about advancements in innovative automation and robotics solutions.

Panelists:

  • Patrick Felty is the Regional Director for Central and South Texas (Alamo Region) for FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). FIRST is a multinational, non-profit organization that aspires to transform culture; making science, technology, engineering and math as cool for kids as sports are today. Today 200,000 high school and grade school students participate in robotics competitions organized by 90,000 volunteers and sponsored by over 2000 corporate partners who provide engineering mentors, funding, and other support.
  • Clay Flannigan holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University.  He is currently the Manager of Robotics and Automation Engineering at SwRI.  This group provides R&D services for industrial automation, controls, robotics, and sensing technologies for a broad range of industries and government agencies.
