The Texas Health and Human Services Commission says it is moving forward with cuts to Medicaid rates which were voted on by state lawmakers in the last legislative session.
Health care advocates say the plan will cause a $350 million drop in Medicaid payments to health care providers.
Supporters of the cuts have said this will bring Medicaid rates in Texas more in line with where rates should be.
However, critics of the beleaguered Texas Health and Human Services Commission says this analysis is based on deeply flawed data.
When in place the cuts could cause 60,000 severely disabled pediatric patients to lose access to the medical services they need.
The cuts were expected to go into effect on September the first but now they are being pushed back one month after a massive outcry from patients, their family members, health care providers and a growing number of law makers.
Rachel Hammon is the executive director of the Texas Association of Home Care and Hospice. She says the rate cuts will mean the end of acute care therapy for tens of thousands of medically-fragile children and seniors.
