A popular Tejano singer has announced he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Little Joe, of Little Joe y la Familia, announced via Facebook earlier this week that he tested positive for the virus on Monday, July 5.

He said he is quarantined at his home in Temple.

In a video, the 79 year-old urged everyone to take precautions, including wearing a mask, social distancing and handwashing to protect themselves and their families. He noted that he followed all procedures prescribed to avoid catching the virus but caught it anyway.

"This is just a reminder of how contagious this virus is," he said. "You have to protect yourself to protect others. We all have to protect one another."

Little Joe y la Familia were pioneers of Tejano music and have won multiple Grammys and Grammy nominations.

They've performed throughout Texas for six decades, including a 2014 performance with the San Antonio Symphony.
