The Source: Texas And Endangered Species

wikicommons http://bit.ly/1IGtlWj

Texas has a contentious history with the Endangered Species Act. Recently the former Texas Comptroller Susan Combs called for the Golden-Cheeked Warbler to be taken off the list of endangered species.

Under Combs, the Comptroller's office was tasked with overseeing endangered species.  The state set aside millions of dollars for research that would challenge new animals being listed. There have been several recent examples of a state that doesn't much care for the strictness of the protective act.  Many of these were compiled in a recent investigative piece published by the Austin American-Statesman

There may be some changes coming as the current Texas Comptroller, Glenn Hegar hiredrespected conservationist Robert Gulley to head up a new position overseeing endangered species and economic growth.  Gulley was instrumental in creating the San Antonio Water System's Plan
