SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio City Council has approved a $500,000 settlement in a civil lawsuit filed by a woman who said a former police officer raped her in 2013.
The San Antonio News-Express says the city council on Thursday approved the settlement without discussion. The plaintiff initially had sought $10 million from the city for violation of her Fourth Amendment constitutional right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.
City Attorney Martha Sepeda said the city and the plaintiff arrived at the settlement amount through mediation.
The former officer, 41-year-old Jackie Neal, still is charged with sexual assault. He is accused of raping the woman in his patrol car while on duty. A message seeking comment was left with Neal’s attorney early Friday.
