San Antonio Music Venue Presents Virtual Little Stage Series

The coronavirus pandemic continues to shut down venues for concerts, delay symphony seasons and in general silence traditional music performances. But there’s one music event you can attend in San Antonio with just the click of a button.

Andrew Walker says it comes from his store in a 1950s-era shopping center on Vance Jackson Street called Dellview Music.

"We're a tiny little hole-in-the-wall music shop here in San Antonio. Actually San Antonio's second-oldest music store, founded in 1964," he said.

Walker and partner Nick Visser own and run Dellville Music. Once a month they create live music for the public there. They call the performances Little Stage Concerts.

"A year ago this week actually we started hosting a little stage series," Walker said. "We built a little stage at the front of the shop and we've been hosting local musicians once a month for kind of a house concert-like series."

If you're thinking NPR Tiny Desk Concert, you're not far off.

"The Little Stage series is very much in the same vein. It usually takes artists and pares them down and makes them play an acoustic set," he said.

Garret T. Capps is playing on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

“We also have Sylvia and her son Matt Kirk, and then we'll round out the evening with Claude Butch Morgan," said Walker.

He left off a pretty interesting part: the opening act. Walker and Visser often perform as singer/songwriters with guitars. But that’s not what they’re doing on Wednesday night.

“Nick and I are going to start off our set in a little different way. We're going to kick off with playing a little bit of Bach on trombone and classical guitar," he said.

According to Walker, the eclectic gathering isn't unusual.

"We've had jazz musicians, we've had R&B groups, a whole mishmash of artists the whole year while doing this," he said.

Because of COVID-19 you can’t go watch it live, but you can catch the performance Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on Dellview Music's Facebook and Instagrampages.
