As the city celebrates Fiesta, party-goers raise the risk of an alcohol-related crash. Meanwhile, residents and local law enforcement are keeping a more watchful eye on the road.

There have been at least seven deaths in Bexar County caused by an intoxicated driver since January 1. More than double the amount of people have been killed in DWI crashes this year than when compared to the same time frame in 2018.

There are over300,000 incidents of drinking and driving per day in the United States. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the number of fatal drunk driving crashes is up and drunk driving arrests are down.

Why do so many people continue to drive under the influence despite the obvious risks? What are the potential physical, emotional, legal and financial consequences of drunk driving?

The blood alcohol concentration limit in Texas is set at 0.8 percent. Canstatewide policy this legislation session curb destructive behavior and strengthen enforcement?

How can we encourage more responsible decision-making regarding alcohol consumption? What can you do to prevent a friend or family member from driving drunk? What should you do if you spot a drunk driver on the road?
