A popular new and used furniture store is closing its doors. Furniture For A Cause, run by San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries, will be shutting down by the end of February.

The lease is ending next month at the facility on Blanco Road. The administrative offices will move to 1919 Northwest Loop 410, said SAMMinistries President and CEO Navarra Williams.

“(This) will help improve our efficiency and provide better service to the homeless of San Antonio,” he said. “And after Furniture for A Cause closes, SAMM Express will continue to take furniture donations and pass them directly to homeless clients to help them continue their self-sufficiency.”

Furniture For A Cause has operated as a social enterprise with the goal of providing funds to augment SAMMinistries’ service to the homeless. Furniture For A Cause also served as a workforce development site to help train homeless men and women working towards self-sufficiency.

Due to changes in the furniture industry, new online low cost retail and resale opportunities available to consumers, the operational expense of a fixed site store has become cost-prohibitive, Williams said.
