Bexar County is home to the sixth largest veteran population in the U.S., according to the Military & Veteran Community Collaborative. More than 12 percent of San Antonio metro area adults are part of the veteran community.
Finding and choosing services for the military community may soon be easier for those living in the seven other counties surrounding Bexar County. TXServes, the first assistance program of its kind in Texas, is expanding its network of legal, medical, employment, and educational resources.
The Alamo Area Council of Governments, which helps facilitate TXServes, is also receiving a new grant from the Texas Veterans Commission to help start a new program to give local military families free home repair or improvement services.
For military families moving in and settling in San Antonio, support continues to grow for initiatives to hire and empower military spouses. In what ways can the military community further contribute to the local economy?
