SAISD Issues District-wide Pay Raises

San Antonio Independent School District

Teachers and staff members in the San Antonio Independent School district will receive a boost in their paychecks starting next semester.

Raises do not happen every year, but the SAISD wanted to introduce a more competitive pay scale to match up with its Bexar County counterparts.

“Our starting salary for new teachers is pretty low in comparison to Bexar County [as a whole]. The Board and superintendent really wanted to move up that starting salary. We think we’ll go from approximately number 15 in the county up to potentially 7th in the county,” said SAISD Spokeswoman Leslie Price.

On the increases, starting teachers will get a boost of $3,600 going from $44,305 to $47,900.

Current Teachers, nurses, and librarians will receive between a three to eight percent increase depending on experience and all other employees will get about a three percent increase. The new pay scales take effect in July or August depending on an individual employee’s contract.

Employees with the district at least 15 years are also being awarded a one-time$500 stipend this year as a thank you for service.
