Nirenberg Looks To Freeman Coliseum, BAMC As Potential Alternative Care Facilities

Mayor Ron Nirenberg said Monday that another "Stay Home, Work Safe" order is not out of the realm of possibility for San Antonio.

Just a week into the month of July, San Antonio saw 3,815 new cases of COVID-19. In comparison, the area saw just 481 new cases in the first week of June. With the state's reopening and Memorial Day weekend, among other things, the daily case average has skyrocketed.

Last month, 150+ cases seemed like a lot. Now, 1,000 is not surprising. Not only are there more cases, but the cases are worse. The number of hospitalizations has risen, and the local hospital system is under high stress — with 11% of staffed beds and 50% of ventilators available as of Tuesday evening. Health officials say San Antonio is within a week of reaching full capacity in local hospitals.

Where will San Antonio go from here? What's the plan to bring San Antonio back to normal? Will it be achievable even if not all residents are on-board?

What do the next couple of months look like for San Antonians, realistically? Will there be another "Stay Home, Work Safe" order?

Guest: Mayor Ron Nirenberg, City of San Antonio
