New Award-Winning Health Director Takes On Well-Being Of San Antonio, Bexar County

Dr. Colleen Bridger received the North Carolina Health Director of the Year award in 2014 for her outstanding leadership in public health and involvement in community activities.

The new director of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, Dr. Colleen Bridger, is a nationally recognized speaker, trainer and innovations expert with over 20 years of experience in community development and improvement.

Armed with a $44,000,000 budget and a staff of nearly 400 public health professionals, Dr. Bridger is now responsible for implementing policies designed to improve the health of residents in San Antonio and Bexar County.

Dr. Bridger says her top priorities include combating obesity, diabetes, the Zika virus, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, as well as promoting health equity.
