Officials with Lyft announced on Thursday it will remove its scooters from San Antonio later this month. It is also exiting Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta, Phoenix and Columbus, Ohio.
The announcement came as a surprise to city staff who officially recommended the company on Wednesday for one of its three exclusive scooter contracts.
City staff reached out to officials with Bird for consideration, claiming the company was "the next highest scoring firm," according to a statement on Friday. Bird officials agreed to limit its number of scooters to 1,000.
Negotiations will now continue with Lime, Razor and Bird.
In a release city staff said they still hoped to vote on the contracts on Dec. 12.
