The Bexar County District Attorney election was settled over a month ago. But hard feelings still seem to exist between incoming DA Nicholas “Nico” LaHood and Susan Reed, the DA he defeated.
On January 1st LaHood takes the oath and officially takes over as Bexar County District Attorney but he said Monday on TPR’s The Source he’s not getting the help he needs to hit the ground running.
“It’s about transitioning personnel information availability of space to do walk-throughs and find out logistically and structurally where we are going to put people. And even access to the offices to look at the lay out,” said LaHood.
After losing Reed, who was DA for 16 years, pledged to cooperate with her successor. In a statement released the day after the election she said “It’s been my honor to have served Bexar County for 28 years as an elected official, sixteen of them as Bexar County’s Criminal District Attorney. This morning, I reached out to Mr. Nico Lahood and let him know we would do everything through the end of the year to make this a smooth transition into the next administration. I thank the citizens of this community for giving me the honor to serve them.”
And Cliff Herberg First Assistant DA to Reed says Reed has kept her word.
“He has had a complete tour of the offices. We have made our HR people available to him for he would have access to the employee records so he would make his hiring and personnel decisions,” said Herberg.
Herberg said Reed has already vacated the DA’s office so LaHood can move in immediately after his January first swearing in.
