James Baker Gets His Big Break, But Has No Budget.

Elena Souris

James Baker has been playing music since his parents bought him his first instrument. The concert French horn player had his eye on the major orchestras, but first he had to get his foot in the door.

This story follows a twenty-something kid fresh out of college making the rounds of orchestra auditions and depleting his cash reserves on transportation. When the best audition of his life is offered...he is 1400 miles and several hundred dollars away from it. What could he do but stick out his thumb.

Recorded on April 5th, 2016, the following was part of the final show in season one of Worth Repeating, Texas Public Radio's Live Storytelling event series.
