School starts in less than three weeks for most kids in the San Antonio area. If your child has not gotten his or her first or updated vaccinations, there are numerous opportunities to get that taken care of.
A Metro Health clinic is in the Frank Garrett Center at 1226 Northwest 18th Street. It’s open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is accepting walk-ins. An immunization event is also taking place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wonderland of the Americas Mall.
There are some things that parents need to bring with them.
“Any immunization record they have for the child, that’s number one. And number two, any information given by the school of what type of vaccination the kids will be required,” said Dr. Anil Mangla, Assistant Director of Health for San Antonio.
They may be able to look up previous vaccination records in the system, but it could take awhile.
“The good thing we’re doing this year is, I’ve asked my staff, if any kids have not received any vaccination in the past to make sure that they get up to date with all their series,” said Mangla.
