If You’re a Texas Vet, You Wait Longer For The VA To Care

Eileen Pace

An Associated Press analysis has determined that Texas veterans spend more time waiting for medical care than the national average.

From September through February, 3.4 percent of appointments at the state’s 54 VA facilities were not within 30 days — the health system’s stated goal after a scandal last summer over lengthy wait times.

The national average during this span was 2.8 percent.

Here are percentages from some Texas VA facilities:

— Austin VA Outpatient Clinic: 6.8

— El Paso VA Outpatient Clinic: 5.9

— Harlingen VA Outpatient Clinic: 5.8

— Permian Basin VA Outpatient Clinic in Odessa: 4.5

— Corpus Christi VA Outpatient Clinic: 3.9

— Houston VA Medical Center: 3.8

— San Antonio VA Medical Center: 3.6

— Central Texas VA Medical Center in Temple: 3.4

— North Texas VA Outpatient Clinic in Bonham: 2.4

— Dallas VA Medical Center: 1.8

— Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic: 1.1
