Gilbert King Explores Threat, Complexity Of American Racism In 'Beneath A Ruthless Sun'

Riverhead Books

In his book "Beneath a Ruthless Sun," Pulitzer Prize-winning author Gilbert King tells a true story of corruption and institutional bigotry.

The non-fiction work is set in 1957, but its narrative of entrenched racism continues to be relevant in 2019.

How can historical storytelling help us better understand modern day racial injustice?

Gilbert King will give a book lecture Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7:00 pm at the Rosenberg Skyroom at the University of the Incarnate Word, with book signing and reception to follow. The event is free and open to the public. Click here for more information.
