Jonathan Palomar has been a member of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán for a little over a year.

While playing with Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, an award-winning Los Angeles-based group, Palomar received a call asking if he was interested in joining this legendary group, known as “el mejor mariachi del mundo,” which translates to the best mariachi in the world.

Palomari said the decision to join took a long time.

“To be a member of Mariachi Vargas, you have to be away from home for a long time,” Palomar said. “For me, it was a difficult decision. I have a 10-year-old daughter. Our family talked, and we decided together. I didn’t want to make the decision alone. We decided to take the opportunity, and since November last year (2017), I have been a member of  Mariachi Vargas.”

He said family is very important to him, and when he can bring them on the road with him, he will. “When I know I’m going to be more than 2 or 3 days in one place, I’ll bring them with me.”
