Far Northwest Bexar County Drivers To Get Some Relief

One of Bexar County's most congested roads will become a little more driveable next week.

Northwest Loop 1604 has been under construction for two years. Located in San Antonio's fastest growing sector, between Hwy 151 and Bandera Road, the overcrowded highway needed to be expanded long before the Texas Department of Transportation broke ground.

TxDOT spokesman Josh Donat says the new construction will dramatically reduce drive times for between 75,000 and 97,000 drivers -- per day.

After the southbound lanes open Monday, weather permitting, the northbound lanes should open in the next three weeks, and there's already talk of more expansion.

Donat says by the year 2019, TxDOT expects to again expand 1604 between Hwy 90 on the west side of Bexar Co. all the way to Interstate 35 on the Northeast.
