'The Dude' Coming To SAMA's Green

The San Antonio Museum of Art is showing a free movie on Friday night that has, in the years since its release,  gained cult status.  Given the exploding reputation of the Movie’s producers, its reputation has grown with time.

"I think that now it's a classic. We can say it's a cult movie for sure."

SAMA's Emily Dujour is talking about a movie that helped give Jeff Bridges cult status: The Big Lebowski. It's apparent from the first scene that you're watching a Coen Brothers movie.

"Yes, definitely. It's really funny but kind of an awkward funny, and there's always crazy stories happening."

Dujour says that you can come only to see the movie , but you shouldn't miss the opportunity to catch SAMA's Heaven and Hell exhibit.

"The movie is free, so if you just want to see the movie you can come at 8:30 and watch the movie. And if you want to go see the gallery talk it would be $15. It's free with Museum Admission."

She says the Exhibit is very dramatic, a little unsettling, and really wonderful.

"You can see terrifying pictures of hell. As you can see wonderful paradise pictures. It's going from 100 to 2013, so it's 2000 years of art.  There's a representation of Buddha and there's a representation of heaven and hell."

The Film on the Green series will show outside in SAMA's massive courtyard. Bring chairs or a blanket, and snacks if you want. There will be a food truck.
