More than 30 H-E-B stores in San Antonio and New Braunfels have now reported at least one employee testing positive for COVID-19 in June, based on tracking of individual store sites.
Individual store sites can be checked to see if an employee has tested positive and when they were last in the store. Here’s an example posted today to the H-E-B Plus on Potranco Road website.
H-E-B does not release an overall count for all stores, so consumers should check on the status of their local store. Officials said the company is protecting the privacy of its employees and the health of patrons at the same time.
“Out of respect for the employee and to adhere to HIPPA privacy laws, we do not release names or details like gender,” said H-E-B spokeswoman Julie Bedingfield in a statement about one recent new case.
“As COVID-19 continues to impact communities around the world, our H-E-B family of more than 120,000 Partners has not gone unaffected.”
Bedingfield also said the company is doing all they can to slow the spread of the potentially deadly virus.
“Through early preparation, continuous guidance, strong sanitation and proper social distancing efforts, we are strongly focused on the health and safety of our Partners and are grateful that Texas has experienced fewer cases than the national average,” she said.
She said swift action is taken once an employee tests positive.
“At impacted locations, all directly affected Partners are notified and provided medical advice,” said Bedingfield.
