Davis Waiting Game Coming To An End -- Will She Or Won't She Run For Governor?

State Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, indicates in a letter sent to supporters that she has made a decision about the 2014 governor’s race and will announce it at the beginning of October.

Davis says in her letter:

"There’s one question I’ve gotten quite often in the past few months. I’ve heard it online, while I’m traveling around the state, from the media, and in my Fort Worth neighborhood: What’s next?... On October 3, I’ll be answering that question. And as part of my dedicated network of grassroots supporters, you will be among the very first to find out."

The question about Davis' future began only hours after her 13-hour filibuster of this summer’s abortion bill that gained her the international spotlight. She was set to announce her decision about the 2014 race just after Labor Day, but her father, Jerry Russell, fell seriously ill and later passed away.

Davis still trails in the amount of campaign funds raised by Republican Greg Abbott, who is widely viewed as the front runner for the GOP, but Davis' numbers steadily grew since multiple Democratic groups set up the online pledge site WeWantWendyDavis.com.

Those same groups have also been gathering volunteers in advance of a Davis announcement.
