In his first five months as district attorney, Joe Gonzales has outlined a new path for Bexar County's criminal justice system.
The DA's office released a set of new initiatives and policies on May 16, which include:
- Expanding attention to the handling of family violence cases;
- launching an "expanded and revamped" cite-and-release program this summer;
- expanding the county's pretrial diversion program;
- and improving communication between law enforcement agencies regarding gang activity.
How will these changes impact Bexar County citizens and public safety outcomes? What other reforms would Gonzales like to see implemented?
Gonzales campaigned on promises of reform, efficiency and a renewed focus on citizens. How do these priorities differ from those of his predecessor? How will he measure success?
