Municipal codes are a consistent standard for buildings, structures and properties in every city.

City codes require residents to maintain standards of safety and cleanliness to ensure the health and wellbeing of other citizens.

In San Antonio, the City's Development Services Departmentoversees code enforcement regarding property use and various other regulations affecting quality of life.

The most common local code violations include overgrown yards and vacant lots, items discarded outside, junked or inoperable vehicles and abandoned houses. Garbage, brush, broken fences and graffiti also typically fall into code compliance

The City responds to reports of code offenses through at least 10 field unitsstationed throughout San Antonio and relies on citizen feedback for enforcement.

What should you do if you receive a notice of code violation? How can residents submit requests and complaints to the City?

How can first-time home and property owners get educated on city codes? Where can citizens get the tools and resources needed to stay in compliance?
