Texas Public Radio's "The Source" is hosting a series of forums with candidates leading up the 2018 midterm elections.
Texas House District 121 includes the Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills and Olmos Park neighborhoods, and it stretches up past Loop 1604 to encompass several Bexar County communities northeast of San Antonio.
Since 2005, the seat was occupied by state representative andTexas Speaker of the House Joe Straus, who decided not to run for reelection this year.
In the running to represent District 121 next are two candidates: Republican Steve Allison and Democrat Celina Montoya.
Business attorney Steve Allison has the incumbent's endorsement and is described as a "strong conservative." Allison has served previously on the Alamo Heights School Boardfor 12 years and spent three terms as president. He was also a vice chair on the board for VIA Metropolitan Transit.
Celina Montoya, a former Texas Public Radio journalist, started the educational non-profit Literacy San Antonio. She has served as chair of the San Antonio Area Foundation Women and Girl's Development Fund, president of the Junior League of San Antonio, and is currently vice president of community and government relations at Alamo Fireworks.
