Jazz, TX, the Pearl’s newest upscale music venue, and Texas Public Radio are partnering on a new broadcast series that’s airing during the month of April, celebrated nationwide as Jazz Appreciation Month. Tune in to TPR every Saturday night in April at 7:00 to hear Jazz, TX owner Doc Watkins and his Orchestra, along with special guests, interviews, and even a magic trick or two. Yes, we said magic tricks.

In addition to Doc Watkins and the band, you’ll hear from San Antonio legends Jim Cullum and Ruben V, and the soulful New Orleans-steeped saxophone of Pierre Poree. The songs run the gamut from swing, to country. Wait, country?

“I have a jazz band, but I live in San Antonio, Texas,” explains Doc Watkins. “I love Willie Nelson, and I love Bob Wills, and Merle Haggard and all these old Texas swing legends and everything, and so natural for us to take our instrumentation and our band and incorporate the tunes of the region in which we live.”
