Canciones, Jaston Williams And Joe Ely: Your Weekend's Here!

From theater to Canciones to Joe Ely – TPR's Arts and Culture Reporter Jack Morgan says the weekend is packed with fun.

Friday at the Pearl features Canciones, which is all about "celebrating Texas music and Texas songs with artists that really have a San Antonio connection," Rosie Reyes says about the showcase, which happens every last Friday of the month through September.

"Tonight's show is a really special show because it includes five artists, songwriters that were born in San Antonio," she says. "We've got Tish Hinojosa, who's known for her folk and bilingual repertoire, and has written a lot about being from San Antonio."

The lineup includes Rosie Flores, who made a name for herself in LA, sometimes known as the "Rockabilly Queen." Plus, David Rodriguez, a West side staple and Mike Ryan, a great singer/songwriter. And we have Nina Diaz, known for the band Girl in a Coma.

That's Canciones, all free, and tonight only at the Pearl.

"He is the master for making you have a good time," says the ClassicTheatre's Kelly Roush describes Jaston Williams. "Nobody gets life the way he gets it. He's got it down."

He's known for his telling Texans how nutty they are, and Texans just love it. Williams' new one-man show is called Clear To Partly Crazy, and here's what it's about: cheerleaders, tornadoes and mental health.

You've got four chances to see it, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"It really is just a delight!"

On Saturday night only at Sam's Burger Joint, Joe Ely performs.

Recognized by the state as its official State Musician, Joe Ely tells Texas's tales like no other.
