Neel Felt An Obligation To Speak Out

Neel Lane worked across the street from Travis Park for decades, and the monument to the Confederate dead had rarely crossed his mind. That changed after a journey of reconciliation to Ghana with his church.

A park his family is deeply connected to, a park that he had seen shows in, read the paper in, smoked cigars in, suddenly became unbearable to him because of that monument. So he spoke out.

Listen to his moving story above.

This story was recorded October 10th at the San Antonio Museum of Art as part of Worth Repeating. The theme of the night was "Because How I Am: stories of identity, how the world sees us and how we see ourselves."
