Bexar County Sheriff's Office Asked To Limit Contact With The Public
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar announced preventative measures to protect inmates and employees.
Medical personnel from University Health System will pre-screen all prisoners before they enter the Justice Intake and Assessment Annex. Inmates with fever or flu-like symptoms will be booked and housed separately from other inmates.
The sheriff's office will also limit contact with the public. Deputies are asked not to enter private residences or businesses, and conduct as much business as possible outdoors.
Non-critical calls for service will be handled by phone instead of dispatching a deputy.
The county will also minimize custodial arrests by filing non-violent offenses at-large.
There are, so far, no confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
