Charges Upgraded Against Three In Child Abuse Case

Three adults at the center of an ongoing child abuse investigation will now face harsher charges, according to Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood’s office.The investigation began in April after a 3-year-old and a 4-year-old were found chained up outside a Bexar County home where they had been left crying for several hours. A neighbor called police who freed the injured children. Six other children were found inside the home. The youngest was 10 months and the oldest was 11-years-old.

Porucha Phillips, 34, was later identified as the mother of the six children inside the home. She returned an hour later with 36-year-old DeAndre Dorch.

The mother of the two children restrained outside was identified as 30-year-old Cheryl Reed. She told police she was in California at the time her children were found outside.

Phillips, Dorch and Reed all now face First Degree Injury to a Child with Serious Body Injury and Second Degree Child Abandonment charges.

The charges will allow the state to seek a punishment of up to life in prison and up to a $10,000 fine for each of the three defendants.

The three are awaiting trial out of the 187th District Court.
