UT Professors Present Anti-Campus Carry Arguments To Federal Judge

Attorneys for three University of Texas professors suing the State of Texas over it’s campus carry law presented their arguments before a federal district judge in Austin.

UT Professor Lisa Moore is one of those professors who alleges her right to academic freedom, which is a protected clause under the 1st Amendment’s right to free speech, would be violated by having a gun in her classroom.

“Guns don’t belong in a university classroom, that’s something that is intuitively rational and most people understand and we need to back out of a conversation where common sense has disappeared from the statutory and legal process,” Moore says.

Austin Federal District Judge Lee Yeakel will revisit with attorneys on Monday and issue a ruling on whether the law should be put on hold while the case is being tried in federal court.
