Bexar County employees are getting another transportation perk added to their benefits packages. During Fiesta, when some people tend to over indulge in alcoholic beverages, each employee will be allowed a $20 credit for Lyft, one of the local ride-booking companies. Commissioners approved the deal during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
Thomas Guevara with the County Manager’s Office told the court this pilot program will be available April 14 through 24.
“Earlier this morning commissioners presented a proclamation highlighting the dangers of alcohol related traffic accidents and ride sharing can be a responsible method of transportation if alcohol is consumed, especially during the Fiesta period,” said Guevara.
County employees already receive free rides on VIA buses and can get a cab fare reimbursement up to $45 one time per year.
The county will spend no more than $49,000 on this pilot program with Lyft.
