More Than $5 Million, The Largest Delinquent Tax Debt In Bexar County, Finally Paid

Bexar County

Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector Albert Uresti has announced a multi-million dollar delinquent tax collection.

Taxing jurisdictions in Bexar County, including NorthsideISD and the City of San Antonio, will be getting their share of more than $5 million after The Dominion Park Apartments on Fredericksburg Road paid its delinquent tax bill.

Uresti said the multi-family housing complex owed that amount in back taxes after its efforts failed to gain an exemption as a community housing development organization (CHDO) over a period of five years, from 2008 to 2012.

"The CHDO is an affordable housing program where if you offer so many affordable housing units, you get to have the an exemption," Uresti explained. "In a lot of cases, it’s a mixed-income development."

Uresti said his department worked with attorneys over many months to secure the debt payment. He said the payment also included more then $587,633 for 2013 taxes, bringing the total to almost $6 million.

The apartment owner, the Maple Avenue Economic Development Corporation, is located in Dallas.
