Bexar County has inked a deal that will give residents a discount on prescription drugs and add funds to another county health program.
The Coast-2-Coast RX Card is free to anyone, and Martin Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts Inc., said it's similar to other prescription discount cards. He said his company has worked out agreements with pharmaceutical companies based on volume.
"We printed alone last year 20 million cards, and this year are probably going to be 35 mililon to 40 million cards that are available in the marketplaces in the governmental entities that we service," said Dettelbach.
Dettelbach said the retailers can offer a portion of the sales back to the counties or other entities signed up for its distribution. Bexar County's Aurora Munoz Sanchez said the royalties paid back to Bexar County will augment services to people with HIV and AIDS.
Sanchez estimates that Bexar County can distribute over 300,000 cards.
Officials say the card offers discounts on more medications than any other program. It also provides discounts on dental, vision, hearing services and veterinary services.
