There’s lots going on this weekend but music, in its many forms dominates.
First off on Saturday night Paula Sullivan says you should head to Carmen's de la Calle for something she calls...
"Resistance is flutetile."
She didn't say futile--flutile, like flutes. The downtown nightclub likes to match up instruments and performers just to see what happens.
"This Saturday it's two flutes played by Katchie Cartwright and Rene Saenz."
They're going to throw in a squeezebox, a double bass and a Brazilian guitar player. Good musicians + improvisation equals magic.
"Exactly! And Carmen's is all about the magic."
Then on Sunday, head to the McNay Art Museum--for music.
"We're going to be rolling in a grand piano."
The McNay's Julie Ledet invites you to discover the curious and beautiful connection between art and music.
"It's going to be led by musicians Joel Dilley and Bett Butler, chamber jazz musicians, from 2PM to 3PM in the exhibition Center. We'll also have a saxophonist, a bassist and a drummer."
And their big inspiration for the music they will be playing is the current exhibition, Monet to Matisse. Your admission to the museum gets the music, too. Also Sunday afternoon, hit the road to Seguin to watch San Antonio Symphony violinist Laura Scalzo play with someone else.
"This weekend I'm playing with Mid Texas Symphony. And I'll actually be playing the solo part for Mozart's 5th Violin Concerto as the soloist."
Scalzo's played it for years, and this particular concerto is her favorite.
"It has even almost like a romantic quality. And as I've been working on it this time I feel like I'm exploring a little bit more of that romantic aspect. Maybe a little bit more vibrato, or a little bit more slide."
The Mid-Texas Symphony is based in both Seguin and Canyon Lake to bring classical music to both areas.
"It's going to be this coming Sunday, at 4 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin."
